How to Set Goals for 2018 That You Will Actually Achieve

2018 Motto 02 – “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” – Jim Rohn

GOAL SETTING! Yes! One of my many productive talents haha. This is something I do yearly, monthly and daily. Goal setting is what makes me, me. Without my goals, I am simply bland…. Following on from last week’s blog post, where I wrote on 2017’s achievements and 2018’s goals. I felt I needed to write a follow up post on how I go about achieving my goals for the year.

Setting Goals - Future Females

This is how I start my mission in achieving my goals;

1) Brainstorm Your Goals

First things first, get your notebook out, one that you can use for the year. Write out all your goals and dreams that come to mind, that make you feel excited, motivated and passionate. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not writing anything down. By not writing your goals out, it’s likely it won’t happen. Ask me I should know! This has happened to me before. Call me old-school but I cannot get through the day without penning down my thoughts or to-do’s in a diary or notebook. I have tried digital calendars but those just aren’t for me. I seem to achieve 110% more when I write it down. Find your best fit and stick with it…

2) Include big moments and projects in your plan

Have you got some exciting projects coming up? Add them to your list you have brainstormed. It is important to add those extra special life moments and projects to your list. Include photos and quotes that inspire you. Get those creative juices flowing!

3) Refine your list

Go back to your brainstorm and start refining your list of goals. Be careful not to write too many down as this may make you overwhelmed. Pick out those goals that make you jump for joy and make you feel ambitious! Get excited and feel that motivational urge inside of you!

4) Plan it out

This is the awesome part! Take a good look how far you have come…Scan through the list of goals you have ultimately decided on. You can now start mapping out HOW you will achieve these. Create a system that works for you, as no two people are the same or go about planning in the same way. Under your main goal, add activities and sub-goals along with deadlines. This, I feel, is the best way to measure and decide on how best to achieve those goals. It’s great to set deadlines on your plan of action, this gives you a timeline and reference point. Remember, keep it simple and realistic. Leave yourself some wiggle room for unexpected “projects” that might arise over this planned time period – life it not predictable as we know or simply just “gets busy”….

5) Put into action

Now that you have your goals written out and a plan in place, you can start your mission to achieving it. How exciting! You will now notice, as you go through the year you will need to tweak some of your plans as new priorities crop up. I suggest you do a monthly review to ensure you are on track and that you can easily adapt your goals, dreams and timeline as you go along.
